Mitzvahs are an important step in the religious life of 13 year old Jewish teens and consist of a religious ceremony and then a celebration. Photographic coverage often entails the documentation of the rehearsal during the week before the Mitzvah with the opportunity to photograph the teen reading from the Torah and practicing their spoken remarks. Portraits of the immediate family are often taken at this time. The Mitzvah service itself is not often photographed. The celebration follows the service and I may begin with family portraits before guests arrive, then coverage of adult cocktails, teen games, dancing, a traditional Hora, candle lighting and all the fun that follows.
